Ambient audio

Harmattan includes an optional ambient sound layer built with the browser's Web Audio API.

Why audio is opt-in

Browsers generally restrict audio that starts without user interaction. Harmattan therefore exposes a sound control rather than assuming permission to play audio automatically.

Persistence

Sound preference is stored under harmattan-sound.

A saved preference still does not override browser autoplay policy. The browser remains authoritative over whether an audio context may start or resume.

Accessibility

The audio layer is atmospheric, not informational. Weather data and state must remain understandable with sound disabled. That separation is imperative.
